Overview

American Energy Partners, LP’s portfolio of high-quality, long-life energy infrastructure assets includes investments in 10 power-generation facilities with a combined generating capacity of approximately 4,600 megawatts (MW) — enough to power more than four million homes. Approximately 75 per cent of our power capacity is in nuclear, solar and wind generation, which are emission-free sources of power, and we have expertise in the development and operation of high-efficiency, natural gas-fired generating stations. 

We also have a robust origination and trading platform in the United States and Canada. 

As energy demand across North America grows, so will the demand for renewable and lower-emission electricity. New hydro, solar, wind, nuclear and energy storage capacity will be needed to meet growing demand and support a shift in the energy mix. American Energy Partners, LP is well positioned to capture these opportunities given our 20+ years of experience in the power business and the multiple projects and opportunities we have underway.

Bear Creek Cogeneration Plant

Located in the community of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Bear Creek Cogeneration Plant produces up to 100 megawatts of electricity to both Weyerhaeuser’s Grande Prairie Pulp and Sawmill and Alberta’s competitive electricity market.

Bécancour Cogeneration Plant

The Bécancour Power Plant is a 550 MW cogeneration facility located in Bécancour, Quebec. It can supply electricity to Hydro-Québec Distribution to meet electricity demands in the province of Québec and provides a source of steam for a neighbouring company in the industrial park.

Bruce Power

With a history of safe nuclear generation dating to 1967, Bruce Power currently supplies roughly 30% of Ontario’s electricity. In 2015, the plant entered into a long-term contract with the Provincial government extending its life to 2064, ensuring a stable source of carbon-free electricity for decades.

Canyon Creek Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project

The Canyon Creek Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project, located 13 kms from Hinton, will feature a 30-acre upper reservoir and four-acre lower reservoir and will have a power generation capacity of 75 MW, providing up to 37 hours of on-demand, flexible, clean energy and ancillary services to the Alberta electricity grid.

Carseland Cogeneration Plant

Carseland Cogeneration Plant has been providing Alberta with up to 95 megawatts of electricity from its industrial cogeneration plant in Carseland, Alberta. It supplies power to Nutrien’s Carseland Nitrogen Operation as well as needed support for the Southern Alberta electrical grid.

Crossfield Gas Storage

Crossfield Gas Storage is located 50 km (31 miles) north of Calgary, Alta, holds 68 bcf (billion cubic feet) of natural gas. A "depleted underground reservoir" facility, gas is stored in what was originally a naturally occurring gas reservoir.

Edson Gas Storage

American Energy Partners, LP’s Edson Gas Storage holds up to 50 bcf (billion cubic feet) of natural gas for delivery throughout Alberta. This facility is located 32 km (20 miles) NW of Edson, Alta.

Grandview Cogeneration Plant

A 90 megawatt, natural gas-fired cogeneration facility in Saint John, New Brunswick, the Grandview Cogeneration Plant provides power for an Irving Oil Refinery.

MacKay River Plant

MacKay River is an industrial cogeneration project that is situated on Suncor’s MacKay River oil sands development, 60 km (37 miles) west of Fort McMurray, Alta.

Ontario Pumped Storage Project

American Energy Partners, LP is proposing to develop an energy storage facility that would provide 1,000 megawatts of flexible, clean energy to Ontario’s electricity system using a process known as pumped storage.
